Why is my Kenmore oven not heating up

Why is my Kenmore oven not heating up

Kenmore Range/Stove/Oven Igniter

When an oven does not heat, the ignition is usually the problem. The igniter serves two primary functions. The igniter opens the oven safety valve by drawing an electrical current. The igniter heats up enough to ignite the gas and glow in the oven burner. The safety valve will not open correctly if the igniter becomes weak. The oven will not heat if the safety valve is not opened. If the stove is turned on, you can check the igniter to see if it is defective. If the flame of the gas flame does not ignite after 90 seconds, the igniter may be too weak to open the valve. Replace the weak igniter. Use a multimeter if the igniter doesn’t glow at all. Replace the igniter if it does not show continuity.

Kenmore Range/Stove/Oven Bake Element

The element will glow red when it is heating up properly. The element will not light if it does not heat. If the heating element is damaged, you can see it. Check the heating element to see if there are any holes or blisters. Multimeters can be used to determine if a bake element is burned out. Replace the bake element if it does not show continuity.

Kenmore Range/Stove/Oven Control Board

Ovens often use control boards to send voltage to elements such as the broiler or bake element. The voltage may not reach these components if the control board has a defect. This will result in the oven not heating. Check the board for any signs of damage or a shorted component. After looking at the appliance’s wiring diagram, you can use the multimeter to check if the voltage reaches the broil, bake elements, or igniters.

Kenmore Range/Stove/Oven temperature sensor

Temperature sensors in ovens monitor the temperature within the cavity to maintain a consistent temperature. A faulty temperature sensor can cause the oven not to heat. A multimeter can be used with the sensor to check if it gives a correct ohm at a specific temperature.

Repairing oven sensors

An oven burner sparking electrode is used to ignite gas in a bake and broil burner. The electrode sits next to the burner. It works like a sparkplug.

When power is applied, a spark leaps from the spark tip to the electrode shield and ignites the gas. The spark may not happen if the electrode is damaged or worn. Check the electrode assembly visually for cracks or damage in the porcelain housing. Remember that the electrode control will only detect a flame if the voltage is correctly polarized and grounded. Check the wall outlet for the proper grounding and polarity if the burner turns off after ignition.

Kenmore Range/Stove/Oven Broil Element

Check the broiler element for any holes or blisters. The broil element will glow red when it is heating up properly. The element will not glow red if it is not heating. If the broil element is damaged, you can usually tell if it has been burned out. Multimeters can be used to check continuity. Replace the broil element if it does not show continuity.

Kenmore Range/Stove/Oven Spark Module

A faulty spark igniter could cause an oven that does not heat up. Use a multimeter if you don’t see a spark when the stove is on, and there is no spark near the broiler or bake burner tube. If there is power, it is possible that the spark module has a defect and needs to be replaced.
