No power to the microwave? You can fix it!

High-Voltage Diode

The microwave helps us heat and cook. It’s an appliance you use several times a day. Over time, this may cause it to start showing signs of damage. To solve the problem of no microwave power or no working, first, you have to understand the possible cause. How do we fix the issue of no power or microwave working?

Problems related to the door switch

The door switch has failed, and the microwave no longer works. A malfunctioning door switch (also known as an interlock switch) is the part of the appliance that tells the other components when to turn the power on or off when the cabinet door is closed.

To access the door switch, you will need to remove the cabinet after unplugging it. Use a multimeter to check for continuity on two terminals. The door switch may need replacing if there is no continuity.

Problems related to the ceramic fuse

A ceramic fuse may be another cause of the problem with the microwave that is not working. When the microwave doesn’t work, and the display is blank, it could be that the ceramic fuse is defective. When the ceramic fuse fails, it also causes the microwave to fail. To access the fuse, unplug the microwave and open the cabinet. This is the fuse located next to the power cord. Multimeters are used to test for the continuity in the ceramic. If there is no continuity observed, the fuse may need replacing.

Cutout or thermal fuse defect

The microwave may not be working if there is a problem. To find the thermal fuse, remove the cabinet. Multimeter to test continuity. Disconnect wires from terminals. The thermal fusible or cutout should be replaced if no continuity can be observed.

Problems with the door latch assembly

A door latch assembly issue could also cause a stopped micro. The door latch assembly is made of plastic hooks that stick out from the door to signal the other parts. The switch will not latch appropriately if the hooks do not work or are damaged. If necessary, replace the door latch. You should contact a Microwave repair professional if you still need help turning on or powering the microwave after trying the above solutions.
